Nothing More, Nothing Less

She screams at me; I scream at her. Another fight about something I forgot halfway through. We’re just fighting. She hurts me. I want to win, so I respond with something I can’t take back.

We sit in silence across from one another. It’s been like this for hours. Finally, she slides over the papers. She tells me she’s had them for weeks; I’ve had my papers for months.

I’m packed and ready to stay at a hotel until everything’s settled. Before leaving, I turn to say one more thing, but when I see her eyes, I realize… I’ve lost.
